Gum disease is one of the easiest diseases to acquire in the world that the simple act of neglecting proper brushing for a few days or eating the wrong food or choosing the wrong habits could immediately result to developing the disease. Therefore, we should have proper awareness on the causes and proper ways to easily reverse the effects of periodontal disease on our daily lives. Here are some tips I could offer for you to achieve easy and quick prevention of gum disease:
Cause: unhealthy diet; prevention: eating right
While we enjoy eating a lot of sweets that sometimes, these have become a part of our diet, it should be a known fact that these are some of the most common culprits of dental diseases. An unhealthy diet spells disaster not only for our dental health but for our overall health as well. Not eating right would result to a weak body, and weak gums so if you get the chance, replace those cakes with healthy options such as fruits and vegetables. There are a variety of sweet salads and fruits to create and they could cost way less yet taste way more delicious so eat fruits rather than cakes and ice cream if you get the chance.
Cause: smoking; prevention: quit
One of the easiest causes of periodontal gum disease issues is smoking and what easier way to prevent it other than to stop? It sounds easy but for the regular chain smoker, it actually isn’t so here are some tips to finally fulfill that plan to stop. First is to find another outlet instead of smoking: tired? Sleep or get a healthy drink. Stressed? Watch a quick movie clip or lie down and relax. There are countless ways to vent your feelings other than smoking and it’s only a matter of finding them.
Cause: improper dental health care; prevention: the other way around
Periodontitis could easily start from the improper way of brushing your teeth or neglecting to floss after meals. Remember, simply brushing your teeth or pretending to do so won’t make the bacteria go away. So make sure to brush your teeth properly – in a smooth circular manner and in such way that your gums don’t get damaged. Also, make sure to floss every after meal to get rid of food debris that could develop into plaque.
Lastly, it should be a practice to visit your dentist every 6 months so you should always schedule an appointment and never miss that appointment for that could mean the future of your dental health.
